In June of 2020, Bristol became a focal point of the UK’s Black Lives Matter protests, when over 10,000 people marched through the city and pulled down the statue of slave trader Edward Colston before throwing it in the river.
Glad Colston's Gone is a coalition united by the belief that the toppling of the Colston Statue has benefitted the City of Bristol. They want to continue conversations around race, racism and justice, both historical and present, in Bristol.
Stokes Croft China collaborated with the coalition to produce this commemorative mug, designed by our very own object...
The Artist: object...
object... is a mixed media artist whose work ranges from miniature collage books to large scale murals and live-painting at events. Their work seeks to bridge the divide between the personal and the political, and between the intuitive and the cerebral. Found materials combined with original elements become new stories and characters.
