'Advertising is a pox on the planet' is a quote lifted from a interview by George Monbiot that took place in Bristol in 2019 where he talks in depth about the advertising industry and how it changes the way people think, limiting independent thought and framing everything in commercial terms.

George Monbiot is an investigative journalist and self-described "professional troublemaker." He uncovers the complicated truths behind the world's most persistent problems and spends his efforts trying to fight environmental destruction, undemocratic power, corruption, deception of the public, injustice, inequality and the misallocation of resources, waste, denial, the libertarianism which grants freedom to the powerful at the expense of the powerless, undisclosed interests, complacency.AdBlock Bristol is working towards a city that celebrates its creativity and independence, where residents have a say in what they see in the city’s streets and other public spaces. We oppose billboards and other corporate outdoor advertising, and promote a visual environment which reflects the unique identity of our city, the values of local communities and the local economy.
The Banksy quote is taken from 'Brandalism' in the book 'Cut It Out' (inspired from Sean Tejaratchi's piece in Crap Hound No.6, July 1999.)
