Margaret Mead (1901-1978)
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
A pioneer in the field of anthropology, Mead studied gender roles and human development in a cross-cultural perspective.
She advocated the study of other cultures with open-mindedness. This can help us better explore alternatives on how to behave as individuals, and how to reorganise societies.
Mead was a supporter of many political causes, fighting against poverty and racism and supporting women's rights. She encouraged seeing these social problems as culturally conditioned, issues that could be overcome by new efforts and ideas.
